Dry Eye Clinic

We understand that dry eyes are a common cause of irritated, red and uncomfortable eyes. Poor tear quality and/or quantity impacts many of us and affects eye comfort, vision and mood. It is chronic and multifactorial in nature and through managing this, we will help improve your quality of life.

Kenmore Plaza Optometrist has a special interest in dry eyes and our team have done extensive training in diagnosis and management.  Through really listening, and with the help of the latest technology, we will tailor our approach to suit you and develop a personalised solution to achieve the eye comfort and vision you want.

Dry eyes occur when there is a deficiency in one or more of the layers that make up the tear film that covers and nourishes the front clear surface of our eyes (cornea).

Diagnosis & Treatment of Dry Eye Disease

Diagnosis of Dry Eye Disease

Dry eye disease is either insufficient tear production or excessive evaporation of existing tears.  Your tears are made up of 3 layers – see diagram.

Dry eye disease encompasses aqueous deficiency, meibomian gland deficiency and blepharitis (inflammation of eyelids).  We will use the latest diagnostic equipment  to determine the quality and quantity of your tears, tear glands and eyelids to accurately identify where your symptoms are coming from and explain the long term effects of any issues.  With this knowledge we can then recommend an individualised management plan for you as this is not a one solution fits all.
